Del Mar Seafoods currently owns and operates fishing vessels and processing plants strategically placed to be able to fish and process all waters from the Mexican border to as far north as the Canadian border. This geographical advantage ensures our customers the best option for continuous supply in years of low productivity.
While fishing is never predictable as we would hope, our seasons and regions of operations are best described as the following.
April-October Monterey squid fishing, this high quality low volume fishery produces our highest quality, signature product highly sought after worldwide.
June-August Hake ( Pacific Whiting ) is produced at our Astoria Oregon facility, caught by our company owned trawler F/V Cassandra Anne. This very competitive derby fishery usually lasts 40-45 days.
July-October "Super Frozen" Oregon sardines, are produced at our new Astoria Oregon facility. These large ultra premium fish are harvested by the F/V Ocean Angel I and the F/V Ocean Angel II under the strictest harvest guidelines and care.
October-March The southern California squid season produces 85% of the states total landings. During this period, Del Mar will produce the bulk of its squid production which totals 20-30% of the entire California squid harvest under our strict quality procedures and grading systems put in place by our founder Santo Cappuccio.
October-March Monterey sardines are fished along the beaches of the Monterey Bay, usually right in front of our unloading facility in Moss Landing.
March-June Monterey anchovy is harvested to order as this resource is plentiful and available in large quantities during these months.
