Pacific Mackerel
(Scomber Japonicus)
|
|
Pacific Mackerel or blue mackerel are just one of the many species of scombroids that inhabit the Pacific ocean. Along with blues there are Spanish, Jack, King and other names like Bonito, Tunny and Skipjack. Cousins of the Tuna, mackerel are caught as far north as Alaska and south of Mexico. Blue mackerel are sold both fresh and frozen.
After catch mackerel are handled with the same care and attention we would handle our Squid or Sardines with. After the unloading process the fish are then transported directly to the factory to be graded and packed for freezing or fresh orders. A closely monitored system of ice and saltwater is maintained in each bin of fish to ensure the quality of the fish is not compromised.
Although mackerel is caught and processed all over the world, some of the most desired mackerel is produced right here off the coast of the Monterey Bay.
