Pacific Sardines

Pacific sardines (sardinops sagax) are caught,  by one or more of Del Mar's modern refrigerated vessels and then quickly delivered to the nearest offloading facility for immediate off load and trucking to the nearby packing and freezing facility. Monterey sardines are caught, off loaded and packaged with in only a few hours of catch, ensuring a high quality and consistent product for their customers worldwide.

Pacific sardines offer a higher fat, low cost, small fish alternative for various uses.  This fish is ideal for aquaculture feed, as well as raw materials for canneries worldwide.  The higher fat content (10-25%) offers a quality high calorie diet for ensuring faster and fattier growth for tuna farmers worldwide. Dollar per calorie, Monterey sardines are a definate value. For canning, the high oil content adds flavor and essential, healthy omega 3 oils to the finished product.

Our Astoria Oregon facility is a producer of larger sized, high oil content sardines.  This  "ultra  premium grade fish"  is harvested by the F/V Ocean angel I and the F/V Ocean Angel II under strict guidelines and quality controls to produce a truly premium long line bait, feed or food grade product.  Again the high fat content (15-25%) has it's obvious advantages. Sizes of this fish range from 90-240 grams per piece.This fish is graded into various sizes by count per 10 kilos, from as high as 110 count to as low as 45 count per 10 kilo.

Our faciltiy in Astoria Oregon is a brand new modern "super freezer" rated facility with the fastest freezing times in the industry.  This facility pumps the fishing vessels refrigerated holds directly to the size graders inside the factory and right into the carton, 12 hours later they are minus 20 degrees F at the core of the 10 kilo block.  Truly a remarkable process ensuring a truly remarkable product.
